Hiking around Incheon: Saturday October 6

After our great hiking vacation in Sokcho, it was nice to come back to Incheon and to our apartment. It is now beginning to really feel like our home. I put up several photos I brought from home up on the walls. We recently bought a much-needed desk, and found a lot of almost-new furniture on the streets. The place is looking a lot better!

We had a short 2-day week before another eventful weekend. I cooked dinner for us on Friday and Saturday night. It was actually nice to eat in, but after doing the math, we calculated it is cheaper to eat-out if we eat Korean food (eating Western food is relatively expensive).

Saturday October 6th, Ian and I met up with the same group that went to the baseball game and with our Korean friend, Steve who gave us a tour around China town during orientation. We met at 9am and went off for a day of hiking. Incheon is a metropolis city but the area is quite vast, and the city borders encompass many small islands. We took a subway north, followed by a bus westward past the airport and a short walk to the ferry station. We boarded a ferry that took us to Muuido Island. We walked around the island, which had beautiful rocky beaches. We were all mesmerized by all the aquatic wildlife moving around our feet. There is a community of approximately 100 people living on the island, and the majority make their living off of the sea. We stopped for lunch by the coast and had an interesting clam soup, maekoli (rice wine) and of course kimchi. It felt like we had left Incheon. It was a great day, and we have already discussed exploring the other islands of Incheon.

After the bus, we walked for around 15 minutes to reach the ferry to take us to the island.

It was weird to think we were still in Incheon. It felt like we had left the city.

We walked along the rocky beach around the island.

There were many locals searching the beach under rocks for mini crabs to sell and eat.
